01 Should I Choose A Petrol Or Battery Operated Hedge Trimmer?

Whether you should choose a petrol or battery operated hedge trimmer depends on personal preference.

Cordless battery powered hedge trimmers have the advantages of being lightweight whilst still providing ample cutting performance. They produce little noise and our battery operated hedge trimmers have an impressive run time thanks to the AP lithium ion battery. You also don’t have to be worried about any engine maintenance.

Petrol hedge trimmers are louder and petrol fumes come as a result of using it, however petrol versions do tend to be more powerful and can be better suited to professional applications. The Stihl engines are designed for great acceleration, reduced fuel consumption, and low emissions. Petrol hedge trimmers also have very quick cutting speeds, to make jobs as efficient as possible.

We have both battery and petrol hedge trimmers in varying sizes, including long hedge trimmers, so you can find the right choice for your projects.

02 Benefits of Stihl Hedge Trimmers

There are significant benefits to choosing Stihl hedge trimmers. Both electric and petrol Stihl hedge trimmers have double-sided cutting blades, trimming variations and anti-vibration systems, providing the safest and most efficient machinery for every job.

Our range includes long hedge trimmers by Stihl, helping you to use your one tool for a wide range of different applications around the garden, reducing the need for ladders to complete work on taller hedges.

If you’re interested in a petrol hedge trimmer, Stihl tools feature a 2-mix engine that combines low consumption and emissions with low weight, providing sufficient power. The Stihl ergostart provides easy starting, cutting the effort to start the tool in half. There is also an ECOSPEED function, which allows you to turn on an economical operating mode to reduce the maximum engine speed and keep your hedge trimmer running at partial load. You can work for much longer thanks to this setting, when slightly less power is required.

For electric hedge trimmers, all Stihl cordless system tools are really quiet, so you don’t need to wear any ear protection. They are designed with a soft-grip front handle to find the exact right angle for the hedges you’re working on.

03 What Safety Features Do The Hedge Trimmers Have?

Our Stihl hedge trimmers feature anti-vibration systems, designed to reduce vibrations and therefore help the operator to maintain optimum control. They are also well balanced in terms of weight, meaning you can work for longer without the arms tiring. The battery operated hedge trimmers have a neutral battery position, when the battery is in the neutral position it’s secured in the machine but isn’t connected to the contacts, so is safe to move around without worrying about accidentally starting the trimmer. The second position can then be used, with the battery fully pushed in, so the hedge trimmer can easily be started. The quiet technology also protects the ears, meaning you don’t need to wear ear protection.

04 How To Store and Clean Hedge Trimmers

You should store your hedge trimmers in a clean and dry area, out of the reach of children at all times. After use, remove the battery if you have an electric hedge trimmer, then apply a small amount of Stihl Superclean or another approved resin solvent onto the blades, to remove sap or resin and protect the blades against corrosion. Cleaning and storing your hedge trimmers properly like this will help to prolong their life and keep them working efficiently.
